Gender is a cross-sectional issue that impacts human development globally. The effect of humanitarian crises and development challenges are experienced differently by females and males and this must be factored into the work of any NGO. Islamic Relief seeks to play an important and influential role in promoting gender justice across the world.

At HAD we are particularly well-positioned to challenge misconceptions about the position of women in Islam, as well as the misuse of religion as a justification for the suppression of women. Through our activities, we highlight the principles of justice, harmony and equality of human worth that are enshrined in Islamic teachings.

The Humanitarian Academy for Development is committed to enable and empower women and men as colleagues, partners and beneficiaries in working towards a just world, and are interested in research on the cross-cutting issues and challenges presented by gender, faith and development.
