Maria completed an MSc in Oil and Gas Management programme at Coventry University, UK. She also graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Bogota, Colombia). Maria has extensive work experience and outstanding academic knowledge in oil, gas and engineering, with particular focus in land seismic exploration in the operations sector from her work with Geoespectro (Colombia); and also gained project management experience from her time working with IBM.
Maria’s work in the oil and gas sector was within the red zone and other high risk areas of Colombia, where her focus was on the assessment of community capacity and impact analysis of company operations. Her current research at Islamic Relief examines disaster preparedness and modalities and methodologies of capacity building, particularly with respect to selection and working relationships with local NGOs.
