“I believe this internship can give me the best grounding and support to begin my career as a researcher, in order to help transform the lives of those most in need through an approach to humanitarian intervention.

MISSION: ASSISTING THE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT BY BUILDING ON EXISTING PROJECTS AND DEVELOPING NEW ONES
DURATION: 3 MONTHS

As I studied for my BA in International Relations and Politics at Oxford Brookes University, I discovered I held a keen interest in justice and political theory, and found myself preoccupied with questions relating to the theme of migration within political theory and the ethics of movement. This motivated me to apply to study an MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration at the University of Oxford, where I focussed my research to three broad areas: the human rights implications of climate change, displacement, and structured innovation as a tool to assist in protection.

As I gained experience as a research assistant between my studies, I became certain that I wanted to pursue a research career. I knew I wanted to be a part of the movement pushing for a shift on how we think about human mobility and climate change, and to add something of value to this discourse. I believe original research to generate new thinking is predominantly an effective way to produce change. However, whilst I held the right qualifications, I was lacking in experience of producing and managing original research – outside the role of support – to an international development/humanitarian organisation.. I therefore applied for an internship at HAD to gain these much needed requirements to work in research and project management.

I am excited to be at HAD, and to have the privilege to be the focal point for all climate-change-related projects.I believe this internship can give me the best grounding and support to begin my career as a researcher, in order to help transform the lives of those most in need, through rigorous examination of the current approach to humanitarian intervention.
