Fortified milk for pre-schoolers

  Palestine is an exception as malnutrition is on the rise among children under five. Currently, 11 out of 100 Palestinian children under-five suffer chronic malnutrition. Islamic Relief Palestine wants to continue the supporting of Palestinian children in Gaza, aiming to combat malnutrition, through providing them with their need for a part of the day, by supplying fortified milk to 4000 Palestinian children in kindergartens in the poor communities for one school year (180 day). The project ensures that Palestinian preschoolers are provided with at least one source of nutritious food each day. Every single child will receive a packet of 200 ml fortified milk on a daily basis under their teacher's supervision, and the filed supervisors monitoring.   Climate change is the defining human development challenge of our time. It threatens to stall poverty reduction and hard-earned progress made in achieving the Millennium Development Goals. In the countries of South Asian region, including Pakistan, the early signs of climate change are already visible. Out of the last 12 years of the last century, 11 were the hottest of the last 400 years where temperatures in Pakistan reached 53 degree C and in Finland 37 or so. These changes are already threatening the lives and livelihoods, health and well-being of millions, especially the poor and vulnerable, who lack the financial, technical, human and institutional resources to adapt. It requires knowledge, skills and resources to adapt to the changing climate.   As Muslims across the world enjoyed their Eid-ul-Adha celebrations, thousands of Syrian children spent their Eid away from their homes and loved ones. Before the current violence in Syria, Eid was a time of celebration for children as with anywhere else in the world. Children would wear new clothes, receive Eid money, buy sweets and chocolates and visit relatives. But this year was the third Eid that many Syrian children were deprived of any delight in celebrating even the basic joys of Eid.   Doctor Maigari is head doctor at the Therapeutic Feeding Centre in Tillaberi, Niger and sees on a daily basis the impact of malnutrition on children. Established by Islamic Relief in 2005, the health centre provided nutritional support to hundreds of children suffering from severe malnutrition and their mothers during the food crisis. Now that the crisis is over the centre also offers medical care for children suffering from a range of health problems.
