Summary Paper Pastoralist lifestyle requires marriage as one of the core components as a way to adapt to climate change, through accumulation of livestock through marriage as well as having children in order to help with the labour. Women’s roles in pastoral tends to limited to domestic roles, however this does not seem to be the case anymore with the increase in participation due to the ever changing and volatile environment. This programmes aims to investigate the livelihoods of pastoralists during extreme climate conditions and the role of women in these communities. Further, it seeks to understand the coping capacities of local communities who have suffered as a result of environmental and socio-cultural problems. Islamic Relief Canada’s scholarship fund was created to provide these orphans with the financial means to achieve their goals and attain a better future. In Gaza This manual has been developed to support field-based capacity-building of the international and non- governmental organizational personnel from all sectors in humanitarian aiding (including protracted emergencies – in both conflict and emergency contexts) in the Gaza Strip. It can also be used to guide government actors that are involved in the design and delivery of humanitarian programs. There are three capacity-building goals. The first is that all participants understand the purpose and methods of mainstreaming protection in humanitarian emergency responses. Secondly, that they develop skills to enable them to mainstream protection. Thirdly, by demonstrating the value and importance of protection mainstreaming, participants are confident to encourage and support others to do the same. The anticipated result of these efforts is that those who used this manual adopt a protection mainstreaming approach to their coordination and program design and implementation in humanitarian emergencies. The main objectives of this manual are the illustration of the followings:

  • What protection mainstreaming in WASH responses means.
  • Relevance and value of PM to humanitarian and WASH interventions.
  • Cite examples of protection mainstreaming in relevant practices to current context.
  • The practical tools skills for the humanitarian field workers to act according to PM principles.
  • The understanding ofthe protection mainstreaming key elements in WASH project life cycle.
  • Encourage a commitment to mainstreaming protection in humanitarian response

This project is funded by DFID PP Programme and implemented by Livelihood and Community Development Program Islamic Relief, Bangladesh Islamic Relief Bangladesh has started PPA PROVED project with the objective to contribute towards achieving MDG1 (reduction of poverty and hunger) through improving livelihoods of the rural poor people in northwest part of Bangladesh. PPA PROVED implemented with different activities for achieving the results set in the project. 191 self-help groups (SHGs) have been formed with 4509 poor women. Each SHG has their own management committee and they are operating SHG activities by themselves. All SHG members can put their signatures, writing meeting resolution, books of accounts for savings and revolving funds. Project team strives to increase capacity of the group leaders in a way that, the groups can be self managed. The SHGs have played very positive role in achieving project outcomes through SHG approach – using loan revolving fund, investment in appropriate profitable enterprises in Qard Al Hasana mode- all leading to achieve the project outcomes as well as ensure sustainable livelihoods of the selected beneficiaries. achieve rights and justice. Islamic Relief Academy In this programmes, Abdulbaset Hamadi investigated faith-based donor behaviour in detail, remodelled it and proposed a new, practical model; generally applicable, though particularly suitable for Islamic institutions and donor circumstances specific to Muslim charitable giving. Additionally through his programmes into donor recipient interaction, Abdulbaset has recognised significant issues with respect to donor retention and has proposed solutions for receiving organisations to address these problems. He has articulated the importance that charities need to place on donor behaviour; why donors give to specific causes and not to others; and understood the determinants driving decision-making in donating to humanitarian organisations and causes. Furthermore, Abdulbaset has identified that existing models fail to go far enough, in that they cannot be universally applied to all charities and contexts as they do not recognise major determinants in donor decision-making, for example donor decisions required for products such as Zakah or Waqf, or under specific circumstances, such as during the holy month of Ramadan, in which donors have a significantly greater propensity for donating, regardless of the presence of an expressed or advocated need.
