Zaynah Iqbal – Learning & Development Intern
“My internship at HAD has allowed to gain more knowledge about the humanitarian sector and the challenges they face. It has widened my skillset and allowed me to possess strong organisational and interpersonal skills.”
MISSION: ASSISTING THE LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT IN ITS ADMIN AND OPERATIONAL DEMANDS
DURATION: 3 MONTHS
I am currently studying towards a BSc in Politics and International Relations at Aston University. I was keen to apply my knowledge and skills in a work setting and also gain an insight into the way humanitarian organisations operate and the challenges they face. My sister who had previously worked for HAD recommended I apply; stating it was a great place to work with a wide range of opportunities available. This led to me to apply for the Admin Trainee role with HAD whilst searching for a placement.
Having successfully secured this role, I can stay ahead of the game in a competitive graduate job market whilst enhancing my CV with practical and transferrable skills. Additionally, working for HAD allows me to explore my passion for humanitarian action and international development in a way that compliments my academic studies.
Joining the Learning and Development (L&D) team enables me to develop a good understanding of how HAD operates and manages their training and recruitment strategies. By working with the L&D department, I can gain valuable exposure to HAD’s training courses and learn about its positive impacts on a global scale. Key responsibilities during my internship include supporting the L&D team as well as gathering and analysing feedback from course delegates to guide future improvements. The environment at the HAD office has allowed to me to fit in comfortably and work with people of all backgrounds. I feel I have already developed strong organisational skills and administrative skills to help deliver HAD’s objectives. I strongly recommend HAD to anyone wishing to do an internship within this sector and work with real professionals in the field.
