Shereen has a Masters Degree in International Business from Aston University in the UK, with a focus on Islamic Banking; and is Human Resources Management qualified at Level 5, with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
With a background in software engineering, she has extensive experience of working in Business Administration and Project Planning. Formerly a self-employed business owner engaged in the recruitment of staff for NHS Hospitals; her accomplishments include, working with the UK Home Office, the Private Sector as well as teaching Arabic and Maths in Supplementary Schools.
In 2000, she set up a charity for Refugees in Birmingham and in 2009 she was appointed to the International Programmes Division of Islamic Relief, from where she moved to her current role with HAD.
Her career has been characterised by her interest in Project Management and in 2008 she directed a programmes project which investigated Islamic banking products as compared to conventional banking services.
Tom Graduated from the University of Birmingham with a master’s degree in International Development Studies (Poverty and Inequality). Tom also holds a BA in Human Geography from Coventry University.
Prior to joining the Business Development Department at HAD, Tom was an intern with the R&D department where he worked closely with a number of the Islamic Relief Field offices in East Africa on developing a Community of Practice project. In his current capacity, Tom helps to seek out funding opportunities and develop project proposals, mainly focussing on institutional donors.
Alex has 4 years’ experience in the coordination and management of humanitarian projects and development programmes across Asia, Africa, and the MENA region. During this time, he has developed expertise in project management, monitoring and evaluation, and capacity building, while acquiring a broad level of thematic knowledge in WASH, Shelter, Food Security, Agriculture & Livestock, Livelihoods, and Emergency Response.
In his current capacity at HAD, Alex coordinates the delivery of non-profit and institutionally funded organisational capacity strengthening programmes for CSOs and local/national NGOs, to enable and empower them to deliver a more effective service. He has recently developed his skills as a trainer, and now co-delivers HAD’s Project DPro training, most recently in Kenya.
Alex graduated with a distinction in MSc Conflict, Security, and Development from the University of Birmingham, where he designed and conducted sensitive dissertation fieldwork along the highly remote and insecure Afghan-Tajik border.
Outside of work, Alex has travelled extensively, and enjoys hiking and camping around the UK. In his spare time, he volunteers with the British Red Cross as a local emergency responder, and has just started learning Arabic to support HAD in the implementation of our programmes.

Fiona previously worked as a Spanish and French teacher at a secondary school where she was subject lead. She has a BA Hons degree in Spanish and Portuguese and has recently completed a Master’s degree in Transnational Organised Crime.
She is passionate about learning and is keen to apply her skills and areas of interest in this role, creating engaging and dynamic learning interventions that support colleagues across the humanitarian sector. Aside from work Fiona is on a journey to understand more about the Islamic faith as well as learn the Arabic Language. She is very excited for the future ahead with HAD and R family where she hopes to develop and deliver impactful learning experiences.

Ali Al-Rawni graduated from Staffordshire University, with a BA Honours Degree in Business Administration.
He has extensive experience of working within the Third Sector, within Youth and Leadership Development, Capacity Building and Organizational Development.
Ali has served on numerous Voluntary Sector Boards, including holding the Chair of the Birmingham Learning Consortium and was a Governor at Fircroft College for four years.
Prior to joining Islamic Relief, Ali developed many training pathways into employment. His experience includes interagency collaborations with Colleges and Voluntary Sector providers in the field of work based training programmes.
In 2011 Ali joined Islamic Relief as Seasonal Programme Coordinator where he was responsible for the delivery of IRW’s Seasonal Food Security Programme.
In 2012 he became the head of IRW’s Orphans and Child Welfare Department.
Ali’s current role is as the internship manager at Islamic Relief Academy where he oversee’s the next generation of faith inspired humanitarians.

Sharar has over 10 years of experience in the area of programmes and development work, within the humanitarian sector.
Prior to joining HAD, Sharar had been working within the International Programmes Division Islamic Relief Worldwide. Sharar worked closely with a number of field offices across the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe providing support at both country and headquarters to ensure the stability and growth of the field country offices.
Sharar was also Managing Director for the Yemen Microfinance Network, an organisation who provided training and capacity building for microfinance institutions and banks. He has also worked in academia, establishing the first English medium International college in Yemen where students could access undergraduate and postgraduate courses from overseas.
Sharar leads on the coordination of training and capacity building for Islamic Relief field and partner offices.
