General
We are a learning academy providing vital support and training to humanitarians worldwide. We’ve been operating since 2014, but our team have been working in the sector for over 30 years. We like to be known as HAD, which stands for the Humanitarian Academy for Development.
Our services range from learning and development training courses on topics such as leadership and management to bespoke consultancy services tailored to the specific needs of humanitarian organisations, for example, coaching and mentoring. We are also creating a future generation of humanitarian leaders through our talent and development programme which recruits capable interns interested in the sector.
Humanitarians work in some of the world’s most dangerous settings, often with communities experiencing disaster or conflict. With this comes a variety of challenges, including operating in locations with significant environmental damage, working with people suffering from trauma, or navigating unstable and insecure contexts during wartime. We equip humanitarians with vital knowledge and skills that will enable them to better provide life-saving aid in the best way possible when a disaster strikes.
We are a learning division of Islamic Relief Worldwide. As well as delivering services for humanitarians operating within both non-governmental and governmental settings, we work closely with the team at Islamic Relief to build their skills and enhance their capacity. This enables them to respond more quickly and effectively in emergency situations.

HAD operates worldwide, with particular experience in the Middle East. As a division of Islamic Relief Worldwide, we have access to over 40 field offices globally.
Yes. Our values of excellence, sincerity, social justice, compassion, and custodianship reflect the beliefs and define the culture of Islamic Relief. We remain guided by the timeless values and teaching provided by the Qur’anic revelation and prophetic example.
Currently, we offer the option to donate towards training delivery wherever it’s needed most, be this delivered as part of a standalone HAD training or as part of a larger bespoke capacity building programme.

To deliver training courses and programmes we must cover a range of costs including course tailoring and development, humanitarian officer salaries, trainer fees, hiring spaces and purchasing materials for trainings, and general administration fees. Your donations will go wherever it is most needed.

Donating towards education will not be classed as zakat but it will count as sadaqah jariyah as we leave an impact on humanitarians and the communities in which they work for years to come.
Donating towards emergency appeals and other staple items like food, water, and blankets will help relieve some of the pain and suffering of communities in humanitarian settings. However, this is only a temporary fix. At HAD, we focus on long-term impact; if you wish to help empower humanitarians and build stronger, more resilient communities, then donating to HAD is a great opportunity. You will gain rewards and reap the blessings for years to come, insha’Allah!
You can view the impact of your donations through our quarterly newsletters which can be viewed on our website.
We are accountable to Allah, to our donors, and to all those we have the honour to serve. In line with our Islamic values of ihsan (excellence) and amanah (custodianship), we are committed to ensuring your donations are used in the most efficient way and we provide the best possible service to those we serve.
We believe in transparency and accountability. That’s why we’re clear that we have admin and fundraising costs and that they are necessary expenditure for our division to be committed to the highest international humanitarian standards.
