General

We are a learning academy providing vital support and training to humanitarians worldwide. We’ve been operating since 2014 but our team have been working in the sector for over 30 years. We like to be known as HAD which stands for the Humanitarian Academy for Development.

Our services range from learning & development training courses such as leadership and management as well as bespoke consultancy services which are tailored to specific needs of humanitarian organisations e.g. coaching & mentoring. We are also creating the future generation of humanitarian leaders through our talent and development programme which recruits interns who are interested in the sector.

Well, this one can be a bit tricky for the average person to grasp so just bear with us while we explain. As you may know, humanitarians work in some of the most risk-prone and disaster hit communities which comes with a variety of challenges such as environmental issues, trauma and dangerous safety issues. In order to combat these issues and help them provide life-saving aid in the best way possible, we at HAD equip aid workers with vital training courses to help grow, develop and transform their abilities so that when a disaster strikes, there are ready to deal with the situation.

We are a learning division of Islamic Relief Worldwide which is why you will see some mention of them on our website and other platforms. As well as providing non-governmental and civil society organisations with training, we also work closely with the team at Islamic Relief to build their skills and improve their abilities. This enables them to respond quicker in emergency situations and tackle issues like poverty in a more effective way.

As we are a division of Islamic Relief Worldwide, we have access to over 40 field offices. So far, we have worked in over 26 countries and continue to expand our reach.

Yes, we hold the same values as Islamic Relief which are excellence, sincerity, social justice, compassion and custodianship. These traits express the belief and define the culture of the organisation. We remain guided by the timeless values and teachings provided by the revelations contained within the Qur’an and prophetic example.

Donations

Currently, you can donate towards two of our projects which are, providing training to wherever it’s needed most and sponsoring a humanitarian officer to a specific country of your choice.

Discover more about our projects and donate here: Donation | HAD (had-int.org)

Whether you’re donating to wherever training is needed most or sponsoring a humanitarian officer, it is very important for us to be transparent with you on where our donations go. In order to deliver a training course, we need to cover a range of costs which includes the following:

Cost for Humanitarian officer – averages to £3,000 but can be higher depending on the country of delivery

Cost of hiring the space for training – averages to £800

Cost of all remaining administration fees – averages to £1000

You can donate through our website here – Donation | HAD (had-int.org)

Donating towards education will not be classed as zakat but it will count as sadaqah jariyah as we leave an impact on humanitarians and the communities they work in for years to come.

Donating towards emergency appeals and other staple items like food, water and blankets will help relieve some of the pain and suffering people go through but this is a temporary fix. At HAD we focus on long-term impact which is at the heart of what we do. If you believe in empowering humanitarians and building stronger communities, then donating towards one of our causes is the perfect opportunity. You will gain rewards and reap the blessings for years to come Insha’Allah!

You can view the impact of your donations through our quarterly newsletters which can be viewed on our website.

We are accountable to Allah, to our donors and to all those we have the honour to serve. In line with our Islamic values of ihsan (excellence) and amanah (custodianship), we are committed to ensuring your donations are used in the most efficient way and we provide the best possible service to those we serve.

We believe in transparency and accountability. That’s why we’re clear that we have admin and fundraising costs and that they are necessary expenditure for our division to be committed to the highest international humanitarian standards. Aside from these, our courses are also accredited by ILM institute who are the UK’s top specialists in leadership & management courses.
