Sharar Mahyub

Head of Programmes

Originally from Ibb, Yemen, Sharar began his career in academia in 2005 working with the
University of Science & Technology Yemen, establishing the first English medium college of its
kind in the country, the International College before transitioning to the development sector in

  1. He worked with the Social Fund for Development in Yemen and later became Managing
    Director of the country’s first national microfinance network — the Yemen Microfinance Network
    (YMN).
    In 2012, Sharar moved out of Yemen and joined Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) as Regional
    Desk Coordinator for the MENA-EE region, overseeing country operations in Jordan,
    Turkey/Syria, Iraq and Lebanon. In November 2017, he transitioned to the Humanitarian
    Academy for Development (HAD), where he has since held several leadership roles, including
    International Training Manager, Development Programme Manager, and Head of Programmes.
    Since 2022, he has served as Head of Programmes & Business Development at HAD.
    Sharar holds an MSc in Business Administration (MBA) from Open University Malaysia and a
    BSc (Hons) in Business Information Technology from the University of Central England.
    His work is driven by a deep sense of duty to Allah (swt) and humanity, with a passion for
    contributing to a fairer, kinder world and supporting those less fortunate. In his current role, he is
    particularly committed to localisation and scaling up the impact of humanitarian and
    developmental efforts, strengthening the capacity of CSOs, LNGOs and INGOs.
    Outside of work, Sharar is a dedicated family man who enjoys socialising, watching and playing
    football, and running whenever time allows.
