In 2016 Islamic Relief’s Humanitarian Academy for Development (HAD) approached Dr Susannah Pickering-Saqqa, University of East London to undertake programmes on seven of their Domestic Programmes (DPs) in Canada, Germany, Malaysia, South Africa, Sweden, UK and USA. This programmes provides an external perspective on the extent and scope of these seven programmes. It maps and analyses the implementation challenges facing them, possible areas for future expansion, collaboration potentials within the Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) network and future resourcing options. It also considers how the DPs challenge donor, staff and Generation M perceptions of IRW’s mission and zakat eligibility. The report concludes with eleven recommendations, which seek to make best use of emerging external opportunities and internal resources while promoting institutional learning.
