How Islamic Relief is working across Syria’s borders

2024-06-12T20:32:07+00:00

Islamic Relief is one of the few humanitarian organisations working cross-border to deliver aid in response to the deepening crisis in Syria. The conflict in the country has killed tens of thousands of people, and has driven over 1.5 million across its borders. For those still inside the country, needs are increasingly acute as conditions continue to deteriorate. It is estimated that over six million people are in need inside Syria. Islamic Relief staff have seen for themselves the horrific situation inside Syria. Millions are thought to be in dire need of food, water and sanitation. In the countries that border [...]

Syria Emergency Response 2012-2014

2023-04-16T11:16:01+00:00

Many refugees have lost family members, witnessed violence, and fled the destruction of their homes and cities, only to find themselves still living in fear abroad. The humanitarian needs of refugees are increasing with no sufficient funds to meet those needs. The security situation in Syria has deteriorated with on-going violence in the north and east Raqqa, Hassakeh, Deir ez Zour and Idlib governorates. The intensification of conflict in Idlib continues to limit the provision of humanitarian assistance to the people in need. Damage anddestruction in Syria is also expected to lead to a fuel shortage and a significant reduction in [...]

Palestine Conflict: One Month On

2023-04-16T10:05:48+00:00

More than 1,900 Palestinians, including women and children, have been killed and thousands more injured since conflict broke out in July. Damage to public infrastructure has left over 1.5 million people without reliable access to basic services, including water and sanitation, and the public health system is close to collapse. Critical medical supplies are low, hospitals and clinics have been damaged, and fuel for ambulances and hospital back-up generators is scarce. Up to a quarter of the population is thought to have been displaced, with the UN’s Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) reporting that around 270,000 people are sheltering in its [...]

Climate Change Policy

2023-04-16T10:02:35+00:00

December 2014 Islamic Relief’s Policy on climate change is outlined in this document. It sets out the foundations that underpin the policy, putting it in the context of Islamic perspectives, scientific evidence, Islamic Relief’s experience, human development and poverty reduction; followed by a series of key policy messages which IR uses in its programmes and advocates to external audiences in order to address climate change. The objectives of the policy are: to provide guidance for the family on the role IR can play in addressing climate change; to advocate to political forums and external audiences what IR believes the issues are, [...]

Greening The Desert Water Solutions for West Africa

2023-04-16T09:57:36+00:00

Throughout West Africa, the impact of climate change has been strongly felt over the last 40 years, with increased desertification, cyclical droughts and flooding. As a result, the people of West Africa are suffering from repeated outbreaks of diseases, persistent malnutrition and currently one of the worst cases of food insecurity in the world. Islamic Relief has always aimed to be effective in alleviating poverty. This can only be achieved if disasters such as droughts and floods are controlled and mitigated. Islamic Relief believes that much poverty is linked to problems with water. With effective provision of water, communities can get [...]

It is our pleasure to share with you a snapshot of the stories of courage and inspiration displayed by individuals, families and communities, in the wake of the devastating floods in Pakistan in 2010. Islamic Relief's response began in Tehsil Kot Addu of district Muzaffargarh where we have recently concluded our emergency and early recovery projects. The stories in this document give an insight into the lives of flood affected communities with whom we have worked hand in hand. These achievements were only possible due to the dedication and ongoing support of all those who helped make the project a success. [...]

NEWSLETTER JULY – DECEMBER 2022

2024-05-16T09:19:17+00:00

The second half of 2022 has been an exciting time of growth and progress for us at HAD. We've transformed humanitarians working in some of the most vulnerable and crisis-hit parts of the world like Yemen and Iraq. We have also worked very closely with NGOs and CSOs in these countries to build on the strengths of humanitarians working on the ground to serve the needy. One of our milestones achieved was towards the end of this year as we introduced our unique Train the Trainer programme to a group of 30 aid workers. We had a fantastic time working on [...]
