Version 2 (Arabic and English) The blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip for the last decade, have resulted in restrictions and obstacles and undermined the ability of municipalities and relevant ministries to provide the essential services to the population of the Gaza Strip (approx. 2 Million people). This situation has exacerbated the already deteriorated living conditions of the populations of the most vulnerable localities particularly, in terms of economic, environmental, protection, education, and health aspects. The current study of the community vulnerability mapping aims to identify the most vulnerable localities in the Gaza Strip in terms of access of their populations [...]

One Cut Too Many

2023-04-25T10:41:24+00:00

A Policy Brief on Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting This policy brief provides the vision and rationale for Islamic Relief to campaign for an end to FGM/C and guides intervention efforts to eradicate it. It calls for the realisation of the fundamental and God-given right of girls and women to live healthy, fulfilled lives free from violence and harm. Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) currently affects 130 million females, mostly within Africa, and a further two million are at risk of being cut every year. It is a harmful practice, one that varies in its severity and is usually driven by a complex mixture [...]

Developing guidelines for faith-sensitive psychosocial programming

A desk review As part of our ongoing partnership together, Islamic Relief Worldwide and Lutheran World Federation began to work in 2016 on the development of guidelines for faith sensitive psychosocial programming. From the onset, we were clear that the guidelines should be inclusive to all humanitarian actors, assisting both secular and faith-based organisations in the course of their work in the field. We used the term ‘faith-sensitive’ to bring the focus of the guidelines on the faith of the people affected by conflict, disaster and displacement, rather than on the faith allegiance (or non-faith allegiance) of humanitarian organisations and agencies. Gaza Humanitarian Crisis

2023-04-24T12:59:44+00:00

On 27 December 2008 a wave of air and missile attacks in Gaza started a humanitarian crisis. The 22 day conflict left hundreds dead and thousands injured, many of them women and children. Throughout the conflict Islamic Relief was on the ground, delivering life-saving aid, but it is only now that the full scale of the tragedy is starting to emerge. 8 Days in Gaza

2023-04-24T12:46:25+00:00

The impact of the conflict The conflict of November 2012 has had a devastating impact on the people of Gaza. With 163 killed, 1,200 injured, thousands displaced and significant damage to infrastructure over a period of eight days, the effect of the bombardment has been catastrophic in this densely populated territory where most of the population were already dependent on humanitarian aid for survival. Amongst the destruction a hospital, a school and a water well rebuilt by Islamic Relief after the 2008 war have been damaged once again. Islamic Relief staff, who were on the ground throughout the conflict delivering life-saving [...]
