Syria Emergency

It’s now been five years since crisis began in Syria. More than 400,000 people are believed to have been killed, and many times more injured. About 4.8 million Syrians have been forced to leave the country, and more than 6 million are internally displaced, making this the largest displacement crisis in the world. For five years, millions of Syrians have lived with the fear of violence on a daily basis. Entire towns and neighborhoods are isolated, and many people cannot leave their homes. Work and school have been put on hold. The most basic necessities are scarce, including food, water, medical care and electricity, and prices are high. Half of Syrians can’t get enough food. In 2016, an estimated 13.5 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. Many of them are in hard-to-reach or besieged areas. Unfortunately, the situation for both internal and external Syrian refugees has only been getting worse. Alhamdulillah, IRUSA’s generous community has helped more than 9 million Syrians—inside Syria and in neighboring Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey, and now in Europe as well. And, through the collaborative efforts of Islamic Relief offices around the world, many more Syrians affected by the conflict have received aid.
