The recent heavy rain falls across Sri Lanka causing floods and landslide and have left thousands of people with homeless. Out of the most affected areas are the eastern province districts it is proposed to implement this project in Ampara district.

Sri Lanka is an island surrounded by the Indian Ocean. The total population of the country is of approximately 22 million. The unprecedented monsoon rains that continued flooding 12 districts of Sri Lanka most specifically the eastern region in the months of January and February leaving its vulnerable impacts on human life and livelihood. The most affected districts are Batticolo and Amapara.
